Dr. David Cavan, MD

Dr. David Cavan, MD, is an experienced diabetes physician who has expertise in all areas of diabetes management. He is especially interested in supporting lifestyle change to manage and reverse type 2 diabetes, and in intensive management of type 1 diabetes including insulin pump therapy.

Dr. Cavan is an active promoter of self-management and has been working extensively on the development of education programs for people with diabetes.

For nearly two decades, he worked as a consultant physician at the Bournemouth Diabetes and Endocrine Centre, where he oversaw the development of education programs for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Dr. Cavan was also the previous chair of the Education and Psychosocial Care Section of Diabetes UK, where he contributed to the development of the National Service Framework for Diabetes.

In 2013, he moved to Brussels to work for three years as the Director of Policy and Programmes at the International Diabetes Federation. His main responsibility there was overseeing projects and programs that addressed the different needs of people with diabetes at a global level.

In 2017 he was closely involved in the development of Diabetes Reversal Programme in Bermuda that has proven to be successful.

He has now returned to the UK as an independent consultant to work on different diabetes-related projects, while also resuming clinical practice.
